Business 40 through downtown Winston-Salem will close at 6 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 17 until early 2020. The closure of the 1.2-mile stretch between Peters Creek Parkway and U.S. 52 will have a significant impact on navigating to the Winston-Salem State University campus.
Traffic will be detoured to I-40, U.S. 52, and Research Parkway. The North Carolina Department of Transportation recommends allowing an extra 20-30 minutes to reach your destination. While construction project is scheduled to last into 2020, it is possible that the portion of the project between U.S. 52 and Main Street will be completed in mid-2019.
The North Carolina Department of Transportation has partnered with the mobile phone application Waze to assist motorists to find the best routes through the construction. Waze offers traffic and route information with real-time alerts for accidents, traffic jams, and more.
